| Unser Hof I Our Farm Gastgeber l Hosts Wir sind Andreas und Babette mit Sohn Thomas. Andreas, geboren 1963, ist gelernter Landwirt. Babette ist 1964 geboren und gelernte Bäuerin. Thomas, Jahrgang 1998, ist ausgebildeter Landmaschinenmechaniker und Landwirt. Momentan arbeitet er bei Stöckli Landmaschinen in Gams und unterstützt die Eltern tatkräftig auf dem Hof. In einigen Jahren beabsichtigt er den Hof weiterzuführen. Die drei Töchter haben ihre eigenen Familien gegründet, kommen aber stets gerne an den Grabserberg, um den Eltern zu helfen. We are Andreas and Babette with son Thomas. Andreas, born in 1963 and Babette, born in 1964, are skilled farmers. Thomas, born in 1998, is a professional mechanic and operator of farm machines as well as agriculturist. At the moment, he works at Stöckli farm machines and actively supports the parents on the farm. In a few years Thomas will take over the farm. The three daughters have their own families, but they still like coming home to help their parents.
Bauernhof l Farm Unser Hof umfasst 26 Hektaren, wobei sich das meiste Land auf 1000 Metern über Meer befindet. Im Stall stehen im Schnitt 50 Stück Vieh, ein Grossteil davon in der Vertragsaufzucht. Während den Sommermonaten weidet unser Jungvieh auf der Alp Engi. Von Mai bis Oktober versorgen wir die Kühe auf unserem Maiensäss Rohr. Den Winter geniessen die Kühe und Kälblein auf dem Heimbetrieb und das Jungvieh auf dem Maiensäss. Die Milch, welche in die Grabser Molkerei geliefert wird, kommt teilweise als Butter, Jogurt und Käse auf den Tisch. Our farm covers 26 acres on three levels of the mountain; most of the property being 1000 m above sea (the 2nd level). Because Nature provides grass for feeding at different altitudes as the seasons progress, our farm consists of housing and barns on these three levels. On an average, we have 50 cows and calves in the barns. Most calves are purchased for the purpose of breeding. The milk, which we deliver to our dairy in Grabs, will find its way back to our table in the form of butter or cheese. Most of our calves are taken to the highest level on the alpine meadow of “Engi” on Grabserberg, during the summer, where the grass grows last. The cows remain at the middle level, where they are more accessible for milking twice daily.
